At the US Department of Transportation's Distracted Driving Summit in Washington, DC on October 1st, 2009 one after the other, the experts at the podium said that one of the key groups in the effort to significantly curb the insidious public safety threat posed by distracted driving is parents, especially moms.
To that end, The Motherhood has launched a public service campaign working with moms across the country to spread the "Keep Your Mind on the Wheel" Msg.
Here is how you can get involved:
- Sign the pledge to "keep your mind on the wheel"; model mindful, safe driving to our kids; and set firm house rules about no phone/texting/driving with your kids and family
- Spread the word by putting the "Mom Sends the Msg" badge on your site
- Join on as a "Mom on Board" Ambassador - email contact@themotherhood.com for a special Ambassador badge and more information
- If you represent an organization or web community, sign on as a "Key" Alliance - email contact@themotherhood.com for more information
- Participate in our Mom Sends the Msg "public service msg" contest
Moms have the power to make a major difference in the distracted driving problem and we are eager to hit the streets with you and get to work.
Many thanks to Julie Pippert for connecting the dots and making this happen, to Jennifer James of The Mom Bloggers Club for her amazing ideas, efforts and outreach on behalf of the campaign and to Christine Koh of Posh Peacock for her design brilliance and a logo that seriously rocks.

This is nice blog This is more informative for all to know about defensive driving.Learning defensive driving had always been a problem with my friends as they hate to attend classes for the full time.

My Granddaughter is 13 and is in 4-H and does pageants where she has to have a platform that she is promoting, We have talked about this with her and she is wanting to do her 4-H Public Speaking speech on this subject as well as make this her platform for her pageants. We would like to have as much information as we can about your cause so we can promote this on the same lines with some of the same information and maybe use some of the painful references that you use in your promotions. We have seen a lot of this activity on our drives to Jefferson City, Mo which for us is a 1 and 1/2 hour drive one way from our home and it scares us to think that we are on the road with people who are doing this. We want to carry on your message to the teens and adults in our area. Is there a way that we can obtain a copy of your contract and maybe a t-shirt that she could wear as she gives her speach? Any info will be of help to get her going. Thank you for your wonderful stand on this and accept our sympathy to all who has already lost a loved one at the hands of a driver that takes their responsibility no more seriously than they do. Kids think that driving is a right they have and is never told how serious the job of driving is. They are not told how much responsibility they have when driving their cars around. Not only are they responsible for taking care of themselves but for the friends that they drive around and the people around them. We have tried to explain this to our Granddaughter while she is small before she is on the way out the door with keys in hand...hopefully while she is still listening...
