Cheryl's story broke our hearts when she shared it with us on Facebook. We are thinking about Cheryl and her family this weekend on the one year anniversary of Adam's death. If we ever needed a reason for what we are doing here on Mom Sends the Msg - this is it.
Cheryl's story is cross-posted here:
On November 15, 2008 a 26 year old man was "looking down" as he said to my husband and to police. He told police he was bending down to pick up a just purchased cigar that rolled of the passenger seat. He decided to do this as he sped 10 miles over the posted speed limit of 45 mph down the right hand lane of a 4 lane road, 2 lanes in each direction and no shoulder. It was evening, dark and cold but clear and the roadway straight.
The"black box" recorder from his car says he never touched the brakes as he plowed into the back of a stationary car with warning lights flashing and inside globe light on as well. Inside the car my husband was calling to tell me he was broken down with a flat tire . He and Adam needed me to come pick them up. Then the impact... the impact that left my husband's nose broken just from his glasses,...the impact that pushed the car 173 ft. that left a 3 ft plus intrusion to the back of the car, the impact that killed my beautiful 5 year old son.
